History

Sunset Fruit originally started as a tomato packing house in a three car garage on the corner of Clinton and Bailey.  It was at that location in 1961 where Joseph T. Schimenti, and his two sons, Joe and John built their business on four standards: hard work, the best product available, competitive pricing, and great customer service.  These standards enabled the Schimenti family to outgrow their original location, and move onto the Niagara Frontier Food Terminal.

Through the years several generations have continued the Sunset tradition.  In 1989 Michael, the current owner, took over his father's role as CEO.  Through the late 1990's and early 2000's, responding to the demands of the local clientele, Michael transformed Sunset into a full service wholesale supplier. His son, Michael Jr. recently returned to Buffalo, and is the fourth generation managing the business. Michael Sr. and Michael Jr. are now working together to uphold the traditions that have built and sustained Sunset for 50 years and into the future.
